Amtrak service from Boston to New York to resume

Sunday, March 17, 2013

Amtrak says it's set to resume service between New York and Boston that was delayed after rail lines in Connecticut were blocked by a derailed freight train.

The first northbound departure from New York's Penn Station is set for 5 p.m. Sunday and the first southbound departure from Boston's South Station is scheduled for 4:10 p.m.

Amtrak says commuters should expect some delays. Passengers who have paid for tickets but chose to not travel because of the disruption can receive a refund or voucher.

The freight train cars were empty when they derailed east of New Haven on Sunday morning.
