Mayor Street to Teach at Temple

Thursday, November 08, 2007

Outgoing Philadelphia Mayor John Street will enter the world of academia when he leaves office in a couple of months.

Street has been named an adjunct professor of political science at Temple University. He'll teach two undergraduate courses on urban politics and policy during the spring term, which begins in January.

He is leaving City Hall because of term limits.

The mayor is a 1975 graduate of Temple's Beasley School of Law.

He has long lived within walking distance of the university's main campus in North Philadelphia.

Street taught decades ago at a private school before becoming a member of City Council. He says he looks forward to getting back to a classroom.
