Sestak, Toomey look for edge in southeast Pa.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - October 23, 2010 -- The candidates in Pennsylvania's hotly contested race for U.S. Senate will be campaigning in the heavily populated swing counties around Philadelphia.

Republican Pat Toomey and Democrat Joe Sestak will be making their pitch Monday with business owners and others as they seek an edge in the southeast.

Nine days are left until the Nov. 2 election and both men are beginning a sprint during which they'll be appearing at multiple events daily around the state.

They are vying to replace five-term Sen. Arlen Specter, whom Sestak beat in the Democratic primary.

Sestak is a second-term U.S. House member from the Philadelphia suburbs and a former Navy admiral.

Toomey is a former businessman and congressman from the Allentown area who more recently headed up a Washington, D.C.-based free-market advocacy group.
