PHILADELPHIA - August 30, 2006 (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Eagles have cut wide receiver Todd Pinkston and quarterback Koy Detmer in a flurry of moves prior to their final preseason game of the season.
Pinkston, who missed all of last season after tearing his right Achilles' tendon in training camp, played in his first game since the Super Bowl 18½ months ago when the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers last Friday.
The wide receiver hadn't practiced much before last week because both of soreness in both of his Achilles' tendons and his willingness to play through pain had come under scrutiny. He only caught one pass in the game againt the Steelers.
Pinkston was a second-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2000 and caught 184 passes for 2,816 yarsd and 14 touchdowns. He tore his Achilles tendon prior to the 2005 season. He became expendable when the Eagles acquired Donte' Stallworth from New Orleans on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles also waived Koy Detmer, a seventh-round draft pick by the Eagles in 1997. He played nine seasons with the Eagles and completed 152 of 298 passes for 1,706 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was the primary holder for placekicker David Akers until this summer.
Besides the cuts, the Eagles signed quarterback A.J. Feeley to a two-year deal. Feeley was dealt by the Eagles to Miami in 2004. He played 11 games for the Dolphins, starting eight, and he completed 53.7 percent of his passes for 1,893 yards, 11 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Feeley was then traded late in the 2005 preseason by Miami, along with a late-round draft pick, to San Diego for quarterback Cleo Lemon. Feeley did not take a snap with the Chargers last year.
The Eagles play their final preseason game against the Jets on Friday night. You can see the game on 6abc.
