Drexel: Shooting suspect not a student

Thursday, April 24, 2008

The 21-year-old arrested for shooting two people is apparently not a Drexel student.

The shooting happened around 1:35 p.m. Wednesday in Yeadon. A constable and an apartment manager were shot at 2200 block of Alfred Drive.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Tamarr Minor, a who claimed to be a junior at Drexel University studying computer sciences. Drexel University has made a statement that Minor was not enrolled at the University.

Police said they, along with a maintenance worker, were serving an eviction notice, but Minor refused to leave. He then pulled out a gun, according to investigators.

Minor shot the constable and the manager, but the gun jammed when he tried to shoot the worker. The suspect then fled.

The constable, Carmen "Skip" Damiani, was shot in the head and the manager, identified as Ted Hicks, was shot in the upper torso with a small-caliber handgun, Yeadon Police Chief Donald Molineux said. They were found in the living room and both were conscious when police arrived.

The victims were listed in guarded, but stable, condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"Fortunately, they are with their families, their comfortable and as I said, very grateful for, frankly, being alive at this hour," said Delaware Co. District Attorney Mike Green.

Minor was leasing the third-story apartment. He was arrested in Philadelphia about two hours after the shooting. Authorities believe they recovered the gun used in the shooting, Molineux said.
