Action News Set Debuts
2.13.2006

You may have noticed things looked a little different on Action News Monday evening. Well, we're debuting our brand new studio. Matt O'Donnell takes us on the tour from the old to the new. Welcome to Studio 2, the site of our old set. Studio 2 is where you have been been seeing Jim Gardner, Rick Williams, Monica Malpass, the whole gang.

The old set needed to be replaced and the new one is ready. Action News went into development back in August of last year. It took about a month to put this all together. AccuWeather StormTracker 6, Dave Roberts, David Murphy, Karen Rogers, everyone was involved.

The most fascinating aspect of the news set - is a cityscape building constructed of glass.

Matt Dennis, Action News Executive Producer: "They used a high power jetted water system that can shoot up to 55,000-pounds per square inch. To cut each building, they went through several sheets of glass. There's probably 60+ lights on all of the buildings in there- we can give the appearance of a sunrise, high noon, sunset. Then we have a really cool element, the twinkling stars- it's fiber optics. We can see different night stars throughout the night sky."

It's six months in the making, it's all coming together. And we're very proud of it. we hope you like it too.

More interactive features of the new set will become available on 6abc.com. Please check back with us soon!
