I-95 Crash Claims 3 Lives

Tuesday, June 27, 2006

Three people died following a chain reaction crash along I-95 that saw a trash truck jump into oncoming traffic and slam into several vehicles before taking down a sound barrier in Delaware County.

Officials say the trash truck was heading south along I-95 near Route 420 when it crossed the center median, through a metal guard rail and headed into northbound traffic. It hit 2 vehicles before busting through the sound wall.

The truck driver, who was trapped inside the cab of the truck, later died from his injuries. Police say a woman and another child in another one of the vehicles also died as a result of the accident.

Several other people were injured. The extent of those injuries is not known.

Trash from the truck remains on the roadway and so do the vehicles involved in the triple fatal accident.

As cleanup and accident investigation continue at the scene, traffic is having a difficult time getting by. The accident happened near Philadelphia International Airport, so people heading out to catch flights will likely need some extra time along I-95 in that part of Delaware County.
