Methachon High School senior Janet Song has co-invented a urine test to detect cancer. She and her brother Benjamin recently took first place for their test at an international science fair in Reno. Nevada. Through Drexel University and the Hepititis B Foundation, Janet hopes that someday the test will become the standard for cancer detection.

    Anisha Simpson has been named the Boys and Girls Club of Delaware 2009 Youth of The Year. Anisha volunteers at the Clarence Fraim Boys & Girls club in Wilmington, Delaware.

    Congratulations to Philadelphia's Creative and Performing Arts High School who are the 2009 winners of the American Red Cross High school video contest. Sophomores in the TV & Film production class created video to promote blood donation.

    Signs of Green & sustainable energy are all around..From roof tops to solar- thermal projects, efforts to help make communities environmentally friendly. Now the Philadelphia based Association of Puertorriquenos en Marcha also known as APM is making plans to go green too. They lay claim to being the only Latino agency in the Nation building all-green affordable homes. APM has been around for nearly 40 years offering a wide range of health, human services as well as various community programs. They recently finished 22 units of new (non-green) construction near fairhill and franklin srteets in north philadelphia..several have been sold but some are still available to first time low-income home buyers.

    Through a shared passion for health and wellness, Sara Lomax-Reese and Denise Stragies Warkov became business partners to create Well4Good. Through a series of workshops, they offer tips on healthy living through nutrition, yoga, meditation and much more. Denise is a homeopathic practitioner, Sara is a registered Yoga teacher and holistic nutrition counselor. They often take clients food shopping to teach them about making healthy choices when purchasing fresh fruits, vegetables, juices and more. Workshops are planned for May.
