Liz Horton joined Eyewitness News in November 2013 as a weather anchor and reporter. Prior to ABC11, Liz worked as a weather/traffic anchor at FOX 35 (WOFL) in Orlando, Florida. Liz began her career as a traffic and weather anchor at WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina. While there, she also reported for WBTV's popular series, "On the Road," writing, shooting, and editing each piece that aired.
In 2006, Liz was crowned Miss North Carolina, and went on to compete in the 2007 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. During her year of reign, she focused her efforts on raising awareness and funding for those suffering with autism. Liz also spent much of her time speaking to middle and high school students, encouraging kids to make healthy choices through RJR's "Right Decision, Right Now" program. She also volunteered much of her time to the Children's Miracle Network, fundraising and visiting children in hospitals all over the state.
Liz is studying meteorology at Mississippi State University and will earn her degree soon. Prior to studying at MSU, Horton received degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and the Carolina School of Broadcasting.
In her free time, Liz enjoys spending time with her husband, Jonathan, and their rescue dog Rocky, a Boston Terrier.
