Temperatures yesterday ran just above seasonal averages. The high at RDU was 92° on Monday afternoon, which is 3 degrees above the normal high for Aug. 12.

After another hot and humid day today, the approach of a cold front from the northwest will set off thunderstorms later in the day and also tonight, with locally strong and gusty thunderstorms around as the front closes in by the evening. There is even the chance that one or two storms would be locally severe. The Storm Prediction Center has part of our viewing area in a slight risk for severe weather. This front then heads to the south of the Triangle later tonight.

The front stalls to the south tomorrow and stays south of the area through Thursday. How far south the front stalls is the main forecast problem. Some of our computer models keep it close enough for a shower or thunderstorm to be possible either day. Other models take it far enough south that drier air is mainly in control. Typically these fronts do not go as far south as our computer models say this time of year, but one thing is for certain, it will not be as warm or as humid as it was earlier in the week.

Moisture will be around on Friday and Saturday for humid conditions and a more clouds. A shower and/or thunderstorm is possible each day.

Have a great Tuesday!
