Super Saver: Pampering on a budget
ABC11's Troubleshooter has a new segment to help you get by a little easier during the latest financial crisis.
12/04/08 Pampering on a Budget
Who doesn't like a little TLC? Especially now since the holidays can be a stressful time. We found a way you can get a massage, facial, haircut or color for a fraction of the normal cost.
The lights are dim and the candles are glowing at the massage and esthetic clinic at Miller-Motte College in Cary. Step inside and you're taken away to pure bliss. Dawn Young, the Esthetics Director at Miller-Motte tells Troubleshooter Diane Wilson, "You can get mini facials, to teen facials, micro-derms, all the way up to chemical peels." You can also splurge on massages and body treatments. And don't worry it's pampering on a budget! A half-hour massage, just 20 bucks. A full hour, 30 bucks. Facials start as low as 15 bucks, microdermabrasions and chemical peels up to 50 bucks. That's less than half what you'd pay at most spas! The reason for the deep discount? Students perform the services. Dawn adds, "It's going to take a little longer and our students have to pay attention to detail."
Students are also paying attention to detail not far away at Mitchell's Academy in Cary. Nicole Jenks is the Director of Admissions and she says Mitchell's Academy offers, "Everything from haircuts, color, relaxers, manicures, pedicures and facials." And the prices you can't beat! A haircut just 6 bucks. Color starts at just $35.00. How about a manicure for just 5.50! Nicole adds, "They're getting same experience as in a spa except a student is working on them." Mitchell's Academy also has an esthetics department with facials starting at 17 bucks and waxing starting at just $6.00. Bargain prices by students anxious to pamper you as they learn a trade. Nicole says, "They have 300 hours in the classroom before even allowed to work on public so by that point they have what they need to do that."
Both Mitchell's Academy and Miller-Motte College use professional products and if you don't have time to indulge, don't forget Christmas is right around the corner. Both offer gift certificates.Appointments are recommended at both Miller-Motte in Cary and Mitchell's Academy. Miller-Motte's Massage Therapy and Esthetic Student Clinic is at 2205 Walnut Street in Cary and their number is 919-532-7177. Mitchell's Academy is also in Cary. It's at 1301 Buck Jones Road. Their number is 919-469-5807. We also found other schools throughout the area. The Aveda Institute of Chapel Hill Troutman's College of Manicuring The Medical Arts School
