(08/09/06 -- CHAPEL HILL) (WTVD) -- Investigators are looking into the electrocution of a construction worker Wednesday at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.
Leland Williams, 31, of Burlington was replacing light fixtures and bulbs on the stadium lights when he was electrocuted just after noon, officials said.
Williams was working at a height of about 90 feet when he was electrocuted, but did not fall, said Randy Young, spokesman for the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Public Safety. Firefighters used a ladder truck to recover his body just before 1 p.m.
State and campus officials are investigating the accident. UNC Fire Marshal Billy Mitchell is looking into why the power was not shut off to the light post while Williams worked.
"What he was actually doing didn't involve any power, so I don't know what exactly happened," Mitchell said. "They hadn't investigated it, yet. It's something we're investigating."
Williams was an employee of Kemco of Burlington Inc., the university said. A telephone message left at the company was not immediately returned.
The work was part of a project that was scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
