(10/18/06 -- FAYETTEVILLE) (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police investigators are trying to piece together a mysterious shooting.
They say former city councilman and ABC board Steve Satisky shot a Marine in the head, but they do not know why. It happened in a parking lot at The Trophy House store on Bragg Boulevard early Monday morning.
Police identify the victim as 22-year old John Lake III, a Marine reservist from Camp Lejeune. Eyewitness News went to Satisky's house to ask about the shooting, but no one came to the door.
Trophy House employees say Satisky's car was parked there when the Marine got inside the vehicle. An argument started and that is when the shot was fired.
"We were made aware of it on Monday in the afternoon time period when police officers came back," said Jimmy Keefe, owner of The Trophy House. "We are actually closed on the weekends, and so we didn't have any idea that anything had happened in the parking lot."
Keefe is a former city councilman, as well. Keefe says he has known Satisky for years and hopes the public is not quick to pass judgment.
"It's easy to talk about it because we don't have all the facts, yet," Keefe said. "Everybody should be reserving judgment. Nobody's sure what happened."
Police have not filed charges because they are still sorting through the facts.
