Volunteer school worker arrested for sex offense

For the fourth time in less than a year, there are allegations of sexual misconduct involving Southeast Raleigh High School.

The latest involved the arrest of the founder of Zebulon Ministry, who volunteered at several Wake County high schools.

According to the arrest warrant, 33-year-old Terrence Nakia Sutton was having a sexual relationship with a student at Southeast.

Sutton was a volunteer who taught choir at several schools until his arrest.

On his MySpace Web site, Sutton calls himself the founder and CEO of Nu Creation Ministries. He faced a judge for the first time Thursday.

"You've been charged with taking indecent liberties with a student," Wake County District Court Judge Jane Gray said.

Sutton volunteered at Southeast and two other Wake schools.

"He is no longer on campus," said Michael Evans, Wake County Schools. "He's going to be removed from our program."

Sutton's alleged victim is identified in court documents only by initials. It does show that victim is now 17 years old.

However, school officials say the incidents took place a couple years ago.

"The background check on this individual was done in March of '06," Evans said. "It came back perfectly clean."

Eyewitness News duplicated the background check just the other day and, again, nothing indicated any sort of concern on our part.

Investigators say the charge of indecent liberties with a student stems from incidents that happened at Southeast, but they won't elaborate.

Sutton's MySpace page has pictures of several young people in school settings. One is labeled as Southeast Raleigh High.

The school has had its share of bad publicity with three other similar incident in the part year. Those involved an assistant principal, a teacher and a teacher's aide.

"It's purely coincidental," Evans said. "There's no cause and effect between that and anything else."

Sutton remains in jail. If he makes his $20,000 bond, he is ordered to have no contact with anyone under 18. He's scheduled for court next month.
