CHAPEL HILL, NC (WTVD) -- Ty Lawson, the point guard who led Carolina to the Final 4 in April, is facing charges.
Police say Lawson, 20, was pulled over on North Columbia Street near Columbia Court around 2:30 a.m. because the music in his car was too loud. The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol as he approached the vehicle. Lawson agreed to a portable breathalyzer test and police say the results were positive.
Lawson was charged with driving after consuming alcohol, violating a local noise ordinance and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Investigators said it's unclear why his license was invalid.
Police say Lawson signed a written promise to appear in court. That court date is set for July 8.
Lawson was one of three North Carolina players who declared for the 2008 NBA draft. He has not hired an agent, meaning he could return to school for his junior season.
