Onslow Sheriff's investigators and military authorities are investigating charred human remains found near Camp Lejeune.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said the human remains were found Sunday in a shallow grave off Old Folkstone Road in Sneads Ferry. Sneads Ferry is on the south end of Camp Lejeune.

Investigators believe someone set a fire in the area in an attempt to cover up a crime.

Neither the Onslow County Sheriff's Officer or military authorities have confirmed whether this is connected to the disappearance of Fort Bragg soldier Holley Wimunc. Wimunc's estranged husband, Camp Lejeune Marine Corporal John Wimunc has been questioned by police and released back to his unit.

Holley Wimunc, is a 2nd lieutenant assigned to Fort Bragg's Charlie Company. She works as an nurse on the maternity ward at Womack Army Medical Center. She was reported missing Thursday morning. Police found her apartment home burned out.
