RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Serious weather moved through the state Thursday afternoon with heavy rain and a chance of tornadoes.
Much of central North Carolina was under a tornado watch Thursday, as a threat of tornadoes loomed.
Several tornado warning were issued throughout the day from the National Weather Service, but there were no reports of serious damage.
Flood watches were in effect for much of North Carolina for up to 3 inches of rainfall in some areas.
The weather appeared to cause lightning to spark a fire in a million dollar home in the area of the Chapel Hill Country Club Thursday.Weather is also believed to be the cause of several traffic accidents across the state, leading to extreme traffic back-ups during the evening commute home for drivers.
As the storm system moves out, colder air will move in and produce snow late Thursday and early Friday in the mountains.
