The North Carolina Democratic Party is planning an up to $10,000 a head birthday party for the Governor-elect Bev Perdue shortly after she's sworn in as governor.

According to the invitation, tickets range from $500 for a "friend" to $10,000 for a "host". The invitation asks guests to make personal or PAC checks payable to the NC Democratic Party and refers potential donors to bevperdue.com and to phone numbers at the state Democratic Party headquarters.

Kerra Bolton with the NC Democratic Party says the money is going to the party's operational funds and it's not earmarked for any specific purpose.

"We do realize these are tough economic times but we are using this fundraiser to celebrate our wins from the fall," said Bolton .
