Construction rescue

Emergency workers lift a man to safety Wednesday.

Emergency workers hoisted a man to safety after he fell 18 feet into a deep hole at a construction site.

It happened at Six Forks Road and Atlantic Avenue in north Raleigh Wednesday.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed workers putting the man onto a backboard before lifting him up to a waiting ambulance.

According to reports from the scene, the man was conscious, but complaining of back pain.

The project manager says the man was wearing a harness, but lost his footing and fell down the shaft.

The construction site is for Winsor Manor. A Website for the project describes it as a mid-rise apartment building.
