Families cleanup day after tornadoes strike

  

FAYETTEVILE (WTVD) -- A line of thunderstorms brought funnel clouds and tornadoes to several counties south of Raleigh Friday afternoon.

There were reports of damage across the area and it was a busy evening for the Eyewitness News weather team as they tracked tornado warnings beginning just after 5 p.m. that ran all way to just before 8.

In northern Robeson County near the Cumberland County line, a mobile home was picked up and completely destroyed. A woman inside was taken to the hospital. The woman's husband said her injuries were not life threatening, but that she faces a long recovery.

More than a dozen homes were damaged near Roslin Farm and Braxton roads in Hope Mills. A picture sent in to ABC11.com showed a mobile home with its roof ripped off.

At the Maidenform plant in the Cumberland County Industrial Park, employees there reported damage to the building. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Along Interstate 95, several callers reported trees snapped in half, signs down, and a tractor-trailer blown on to its side. Highway Patrol spokesman Capt. Everett Clendenin said the tractor-tractor was between the northbound 40 and 41 mile markers. The road was cleared within an hour.

In the same general area, Eyewitness News reporter Gilbert Baez reported that a home that a large wood frame building under construction at Tom Stalling Road and Interstate 95 in Cumberland County was completely destroyed. There was nobody inside at the time.
