Man stabbed in Raleigh

Raleigh police are investigating a stabbing that happened in the warehouse district.

It happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Hargett Street and Boylan Ave.

Police arrested 30-year-old Donnell Lamont Smith and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Officers said Smith stabbed 57-year-old Andrei Vass of Norlina in the neck with a pen or a pencil.

Vass told police he met Smith at the Buckhead Saloon in Raleigh and agreed to drive him to a shelter. When Vass asked Smith to get out of the car, police said Smith stabbed Vass.

Vass drove himself a few blocks until he found an officer at Hargett and West streets.

Vass underwent surgery at WakeMed.
