JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- An intense fire burned through a tobacco field on Noah Road near Benson Monday evening.
It happened just north of I-40 off Highway 96 around 7p.m.
No one was hurt in the blaze, but the flames destroyed at least eight tobacco barns.
Several drivers on I-40 called 911, because they could see the smoke from the highway.
Officials have not said how the fire started.
