Police say on Monday, local businessman William Maxwell, Jr. shot his wife Kathryn and the couple's children - 17-year-old daughter Conner and 15-year-old son Cameron - before turning his pistol on himself.
Rev. John Cook told mourners the family suspected Maxwell had some kind of mental illness.
"[But] none of us knew just how sick he was," Cook said.
The family was heavily involved in the church. Maxwell served as a deacon, and he was remembered Friday as a loving father despite the tragedy.
Meanwhile, comments continued to pour in to a Facebook page set up for mourners.
"We are all very saddened by this but our precious Lord will help all of us through this," wrote family friend Peggy Manning.
