There is a way for family and friends to find out if a loved one is safe in times of disaster.

The military has not yet issued a list of those wounded or killed in the recent shooting out of Fort Hood in Texas, but there is a way for family and friends to find out if a loved one is safe. It's called the Safe and Well List and it's through the American Red Cross.

If you have not heard from a loved one in Fort Hood, you may want to log on. When disaster strikes, the American Red Cross is there to help, even when it involves the U.S. Army.

Today, under "Disaster Event", there's an option for "Fort Hood Shooting." Anyone in Fort Hood, or close to yesterday's shooting, can log on and type a message. Then, those family and friends anywhere in the world can go to the website and search for that person.

You'll need a name and phone number or address. If that person has registered, you will see he or she is safe and well in the face of disaster.

Keep in mind, this is all voluntary. Not everyone who is safe will be here. In fact, 232 people have registered in the past 24 hours. Click here to visit the Safe and Well List .
