The Coats police chief is in the hospital, and a wanted man is behind bars after a fight landed the chief in the hospital.

Chief Eddie Jaggers was knocked out in a tussle at the Oakdale mobile home park Tuesday night in Harnett County.

According to an eyewitness, police had a license checkpoint and the man took off from the scene in his car. Chief Jaggers chased the driver down Highway 27 and then the pursuit turned into a foot chase.

That's when the suspect and the Chief got into a fist fight, and the Chief was knocked out.

He was taken to WakeMed and will be okay.
