Threat locked down Fayetteville schools

Friday, November 20, 2009

Mac Williams Middle School and the adjoining Cape Fear High School went on lock down after Cumberland County authorities learned about an alleged threat.

Authorities said some middle school students made up a story about another student, saying he was going to bring a gun to school Friday.

The sheriff's office took the threat seriously and searched the student's home Thursday night. Deputies did not find any weapons and concluded the story was fabricated.

Debbie Tanna with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office told ABC11 Eyewitness News it was a prank and the students targeted the "geekiest" student.
