Car cut in half by wreck

Monday, November 30, 2009

Investigators are blaming reckless driving for a horrific crash in Harnett County early Monday that cut a car cleanly in two.

It happened near the intersection of NC Highway 210 and Temple Road four miles south of Lillington just before 6 a.m.

Troopers say 38-year-old Ratcliffe Watson tried to pass in a no passing zone and clipped another car before spinning into the path of a third car.

The impact split Watson's Toyota Camry in half.

Pictures from Chopper 11 HD showed one half of the car on a wrecker while the truck operator used a winch to pull the other half from the woods along side the road.

Amazingly, only Watson was taken to the hospital.

Authorities say he will face several charges including reckless driving.
