Lejeune Marine Killed

Camp Lejeune announced Monday the death of a 19-year-old Marine in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Philip P. Clark, 19, of Gainesville, Fla., died May 18 as a result of a hostile incident while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Clark was a rifleman assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward. He joined the Marine Corps in June 2008, and was promoted to the rank of lance corporal on March 1, 2009.

He deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and NATO International Security Assistance Force Medal.

He is survived by his wife.
