RALEIGH (WTVD) -- First coming to Raleigh to play for the Hurricanes in 2000, center Rod Brind'Amour announced Wednesday his plan to retire as a player from the team.
The veteran hockey player will move to a position within the Carolina Hurricanes organization.
"For 10 years, Rod Brind'Amour has represented the best of Hurricanes hockey," Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford said. "His work ethic set the bar for what is expected in our locker room, as did his professionalism and leadership. I look forward to working with Rod as he begins his next chapter in hockey."
During his 10-year career with the Hurricanes, Brind'Amour leaves the ice with an impressive record of success, leading the team to its only Stanley Cup championship in 2006 and ranking as the points leader for the franchise since the team's relocation to North Carolina in 1997.
Brind'Amour produced 473 points in the 694 games he played with the Hurricanes.
Brind'Amour scored nine goals and made 10 assists during his final season with the Hurricanes. He ranked first among Hurricanes players and third in the NHL in face-off percentage (58.8 percent).
