Weigh in on Wake superintendent search

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Wake County residents will have two opportunities to weigh in on the school system's search for a superintendent.

The district is replacing Del Burns, whose last day was Jun 30. He resigned after speaking out against the new community based school program.

The board voted to end its diversity policy in May. With the community program, students will attend schools in their neighborhoods instead of being bused to schools further away. Opponents of the community program say neighborhood schools lack diversity.

The public hearing begins at 6 p.m. today and a second hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at noon.

Both hearing will take place at Wake County Public School headquarters on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh.
