North Carolina BBQ recalled

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a Louisburg barbeque maker has recalled approximately 4,920 pounds of ready-to-eat pork BBQ products that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Murphy House, which was serving food at multiple sites at the NC State Fair, can no longer sell some of its pork products.

Officials at the State Fair say at this point there's no reason to be concerned.

"We're confident that Murphy House is taking the proper actions to protect the health of their customers," State Fair Spokesman Brian Long said.

Long says as soon as the USDA test results indicated the possibility of salmonella contamination with some of the food vendor's products the company jumped into action.

"This morning the company immediately pulled from sale any barbecue products that it had on the fairgrounds," he said. "They took swift action today to ensure that nothing, nothing involved in the recall would be sold at the fair."

The recalled products are:

1 lb. and 5 lb. plastic tubs of "MURPHY HOUSE Unskinned Pork with Barbeque Sauce-TEXTURED VEGETABLE PROTEIN ADDED" written in green lettering on the container’s top.
1 lb. and 5 lb. plastic tubs of "MURPHY HOUSE PREMIUM PORK BARBEQUE-COOKED, UNSKINNED PORK WITH BARBEQUE SAUCE ADDED " written in red lettering on the container’s top.

Each package bears the establishment number "EST. 2135" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Individual packages bear the sell-by date of 11/21/10.

There are no reports of anyone getting sick from eating the products. Investigators say the potential contamination was discovered during inspections.

ABC11 Eyewitness News tried to contact Murphy House, but the calls were not immediately returned.
