Raleigh's ice rink extending its hours

The Downtown Raleigh Alliance and Polar Ice House announced Wednesday that over 3,000 skaters have visited the downtown ice rink since the opening night on Dec. 4.

To celebrate the holiday break, the AT&T Raleigh Winterfest rink will extend normal operating hours through January 3, 2011.

Skating sessions will run weekdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the exception of January 3 when the rink will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays will have two sessions; noon to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In addition, the Winterfest rink will be open on Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Christmas Day from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., New Year's Eve from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and New Year's Day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The rink also features a variety of programming throughout the season: Sledding Sundays (select dates, Family Tuesdays, Music Craze Wednesdays, Stroller Skate Thursday Mornings, Date & Skate Thursdays and Rock Around the Rink Fridays.

The ice rink will operate until Jan. 30 and admission is $8 (includes skate rental).
