Group speaking out against voter ID proposal

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Opponents of a proposal to require voters to show photo ID to cast votes are speaking out at the Legislative Building in Raleigh on Wednesday.

Several organizations are involved trying to block the bill including the NAACP, Democracy North Carolina, Southern Coalition for Social Justice and the League of Women Voters.

Organizers say some North Carolina voters could potentially be disenfranchised by a photo ID law.

Supporters of the bill believe it would help to eliminate voter fraud.

The group gathers at 10:00 a.m., and will attend a legislative committee meeting before holding a noon news conference.

Students from several Historically Black Colleges and Universities will speak with media and meet with legislators.
