INDIANAPOLIS (WTVD) -- UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp is in Indianapolis attending a NCAA retreat on college sports reform.
The 2-day retreat is designed to address issues like academic success and integrity, which have plagued some Division I schools. Thorp continues to deal with the NCAA investigation into football player conduct at UNC.
The investigation has cast a shadow over athletics that Thorp is hopeful about ridding.
"Once coach Withers gets on the football field, and people are excited about football, they get excited about field hockey," Thorp said. "I think that people will understand what Carolina is all about."
Thorp will face his peers and NCAA officials behind closed doors. He says he hopes to leave with insight into avoiding the turmoil that has consumed his university.
"I'm very interested in anything that could help us deal with the kind of situation that we just had, or more importantly, protect us from that kind of situation," Thorp added.
UNC is scheduled to return to Indianapolis in October for a hearing to address violations identified by a NCAA investigation.
