RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The N.C. Division of Public Health reports that it is now investigating 25 cases related to the E. coli outbreak.
Eight cases are confirmed E. coli cases; 17 cases are still being investigated.
Investigators said 22 of the 25 persons involved attended the North Carolina State Fair, but a specific source has not been pinpointed.
Here's the county-by-county breakdown:
- Wake - 12
- Sampson - 7
- Cleveland - 1
- Durham - 1
- Johnston - 1
- Orange - 1
- Wilson - 2
Of the 25 cases under investigation, the split between adults and children is almost even. At least three young children remain hospitalized.
Symptoms of E. coli poisoning include diarrhea, abdominal cramping, pain or tenderness and nausea and vomiting.
