Wounded teen scheduled for another surgery

CUMBERLAND COUNTY (WTVD) -- A Cape Fear High School freshman shot in the neck while eating her lunch on campus last month is scheduled for another surgery Friday.

A Facebook page for 15-year-old Catilyn Abercrombie says surgeons will work to repair her esophagus, and it's hoped the surgery will be her last.

Abercrombie was shot with a .22 caliber bullet Oct. 24 as she sat outside on the campus off Clinton Road.

A .22 caliber rifle was recovered inside the building and a shell casing was discovered in a breezeway. Investigators said footage from surveillance cameras showed two students carrying the rifle into the school.

Eighteen-year-old Ta'Von McLaurin, and 15-year-old Charles Underwood Jr. were later taken into custody at their Cumberland County homes.

McLaurin is charged with felony aiding and abetting. Underwood is charged in juvenile court with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

He was scheduled to have a hearing Thursday.
