Police catch alleged bike bandit

Friday, April 06, 2012

Police said Friday they've arrested a man who allegedly rode a bicycle to a bank robbery.

Van David Kalcevic, 21, is charged with robbing the BB&T bank in Beaver Creek Commons March 29.

Kalcevic was already in the Wake County jail on unrelated charges.

Investigators said Kalcevic arrived at the bank on a mountain bike and then left in a pickup truck belonging to a bank employee.

Police and the FBI served a search warrant at his home on University Woods Road in Raleigh and apparently found enough evidence to make an arrest.

In addition to a robbery charge for the bank holdup, Kalcevic was charged with another count of robbery for allegedly taking the teller's vehicle and six counts of second-degree kidnapping.
