Tata: Assignment plan doesn't harm home sales

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Wake County Public Schools Superintendent Tony Tata said the new assignment plan is not taking a toll on the local real estate market.

Tata delivered that message during his weekly briefing Friday morning in Cary.

He said data shows the number of homes sold in Wake County actually rose in this first quarter compared to the previous year. Some opponents have said new home buyers were concerned about where their students would attend school and were bypassing Wake County.

Tata said the figures show the school choice plan is not having an adverse affect on home sales.

Meanwhile, Tata said the final assignment plan will be sent home with students Tuesday.
