Man killed, another assaulted in shooting

Authorities in Rocky Mount are searching for two unidentified suspects in connection with a homicide.

Just after 10 p.m. Monday, officers were called to the 1400 block of Branch Street after multiple shots were fired in the area.

When authorities arrived, they found 26-year-old Emmanuel Robert Gent dead at the scene. They said he was apparently shot by two unknown suspects.

Another man, 26-year-old Tavarius Monquele Alston, was also physically assaulted by one of the suspects.

The suspects ran off after Alston fled to his Branch Street home and told a family member to call police. Alston was later treated at the scene by EMS for minor injuries.

One suspect was described as wearing a white T-shirt and black pants with a red bandana covering his face. The second suspect was allegedly wearing a black shirt, black pants and black shoes.

The case is still under investigation.
