Witness describes fatal gas station accident

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Police released a 911 call Thursday in which a witness describes watching a woman allegedly kill a man working in a manhole with a SUV.

The accident happened at a BP gas station at New Bern Avenue and Corporation Drive in Raleigh early Wednesday afternoon. Police said 50-year-old Randy Wilson was working in an underground well at the station in the 4000 block of New Bern.

"A lady just ran over a man that was in the manhole at the gas station," a 911 caller reported to an emergency operator. "Oh my god, please send help."

The unidentified caller said the woman was driving a champagne colored Chevrolet Tahoe.

"The person that was driving just took off," said the caller.

Police said they arrested the alleged driver - 52-year-old Deborah Dunkley - a short time later. She was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and with unsafe movement and was taken to the Wake County Jail where she bonded out Wednesday evening.

Raleigh police said they were interested in speaking with other witnesses who may have seen what happened, but left before officers had a chance to take statements.
