DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham man said when he first heard that police had arrested the man known as the "Green Goblin" he was relieved.
Nathaniel Holmes told ABC11 he was the victim of the suspect officials said is responsible for a string of robberies around Durham while wearing the comic book villain mask.
"I'm like great! And then I get home, turn on the news, and I see Damon Quick," Holmes said.
Durham police arrested 35-year-old Damon Quick and charged him with 43 counts relating to a series of robberies.
But Holmes said when he found out the person behind bars was Quick, he knew that was not the person responsible for his armed robbery.
"I know Damon, I know his kids. My son and his son used to practice in the same gym facility," said Holmes. "I know his voice. I know what he sounds like. I know his walk. My particular case, it was not Damon Quick."
Holmes said he closing a dollar store May 17 with two other employees when a man wearing a mask and carrying a gun began shouting orders.
"As I turn to close the doors, my key is in the door, before I can turn the latch, I hear the young lady say, oh my God!" said Holmes. "His exact words were, "Get back in the store! Get back in the store!"
Holmes said the holdup continued for more than 10 minutes while employees filled a bag with cash. In that time, Holmes was able to notice that the robber who held him up had a distinct African accent that Quick does not have.
"My concern is that the person that robbed me is still out on the street and that other citizens are at risk," Holmes said.
Holmes said he has not shared those concerns with Durham police. Meanwhile, police told ABC11 they continue to investigate the "Green Goblin" robberies, as well as Quick.
Quick was rushed from jail to the hospital Wednesday after authorities said he tried to commit suicide while in custody. His family said he is in a medically induced coma, but is expected to survive.
