Storms leave over 4K in Triangle without power

Saturday, June 30, 2012

The extreme weather brought a wave of severe storms to the Triangle overnight Friday into early Saturday morning.

Winds whipping upwards of 90 miles per hour brought down trees throughout the area.

There were more than 40 separate reports of downed trees and power lines Saturday morning

The severe weather also knocked out power for more than 1,900 Progress Energy customers throughout the ABC 11 viewing area and nearly 3,000 Duke Energy customers were out of power as well.

By 11 a.m. Saturday those numbers dwindled to 300 without power in Orange County and 600 in Durham County, per Duke Energy.

In Wake County, Progress Energy reported 200 homes without power.
