Dozens remember cyclist killed in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Friends and family gathered at Wake Crossroads Church Friday to share stories about a state official killed in a cycling accident July 4.

Those in attendance shared stories about Steve Jordan and the legacy he left behind. The 49-year-old was killed when a truck hit his bike while riding along Louisburg Road.

"Steve was alive at 2pm, 2:15 he had died into eternity," Toiin Daodu said.

Jordan served as the Director of the North Carolina Division of Mental Health Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services. Friends said the public official had an impact on several throughout the community.

"He's going to be missed by so many people," 16-year-old Zach Braswell said.

His wife, Angela, and three boys, ages 17, 15, and 12 sat and listened as people shared what they will miss most about Jordan.

"He never really like flaunted anything and he was like so caring for everybody," 15-year-old Laurence Horne said.

Jordan's mother was also at the gathering, remembering her son's life as one fulfilled.

"He was a happy man and whatever life he lived, even though it wasn't long, he lived it, he didn't watch it go by," Jordan's mother Iris Akin said.

Officials have charged the driver of the truck driver in connection with the accident. Clifton Paul Ellis, 28, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. He turned himself in to authorities Thursday.
