Three month anniversary of missing Ft. Bragg soldier

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- It has been three months since her disappearance, but some are still holding out hope that a missing Fort Bragg soldier will come home.

Friends and family of Kelli Bordeaux held a butterfly release of hope Saturday in Fayetteville. The 23-year-old was last seen April 14 at the Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville. Since then, there have been numerous volunteer search efforts to locate the missing woman.

"They're off on the weekends. They're taking time out of their day to come and help look for my wife," Bordeaux's husband Michael Bordeaux said.

Kelli's sister organized Saturday's butterfly release in hopes that Kelli will continue to be on the minds of people in Cumberland County.

"That's the whole purpose of the butterfly release of hope today, because there's still hope that she'll come home," volunteer Debbie Britt said.

Organizers chose butterflies because they were a special good luck symbol for the missing woman.

"When Kelli got married they released butterflies because she's an environmentalist. They didn't want to release balloons, paper, anything like that," said Britt. "One landed on her hip and she looked and she said to her sister, 'That's good luck!'"

Volunteers have already discussed hold another search for Kelli next weekend. Members of the community are convinced that someone out there knows what happened to Kelli and could help authorities solve the mystery of her disappearance.

"It makes me feel a lot better knowing that all these people care, and they want to find her," Michael Bordeaux said. "Everyone knows how special Kelli is. I just want to say thank you. I appreciate it!"
