Defense gadgets on display at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, NC (WTVD) -- Hundreds of contractors pitched everything from lab-grown human tissue to 3D simulation software to military officials Tuesday at the North Carolina Federal Advanced Technologies Symposium.

It's part of an effort by state leaders - including U.S. Senator Richard Burr - to grow North Carolina's more than $4 billion defense industry.

The event at UNC's Friday Center drew members of the Special Operations Forces and representatives from military installations across the state, including Ft. Bragg.

It comes after the US Army Forces command relocated to Ft. Bragg.

"It brings a big amount of buying power and decision-making authority," said Scott Dorney, executive director of the North Carolina Military Business Center, which hosted the event.

Among the products and technology presented were electro-spun glass nano-fibers, water-proof casts, and light electric trucks.
