Man arrested in woman's head injury

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

A woman is in critical condition suffering from a head injury, and Raleigh police are investigating her friend's story as to how the injury happened.

Police arrested 25-year-old Laith Qomaq and charged him causing the woman's wound. He has since been released on $10,000 bond and has been seen at the North Raleigh townhome where the incident allegedly took place Sunday.

When paramedics arrived at the home Sunday, they said the woman was lying near the front door bleeding from her head.

According to a search warrant, Qomaq first told police that the 23-year-old woman hit her head while they were play wrestling.

He then said they were arguing, and when he threw her over his shoulder she fell from the second floor landing.

The warrant says paramedics did not think Qomaq's story was consistent with the injury.

Doctors later told investigators they thought the injury was caused by a blunt object.

The woman is currently listed in critical condition at Wake Med.
