NC State preps for trip to Spain

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

One of the most anticipated seasons in N.C. State history has essentially started.

The Wolfpack are getting a jump on the competition taking their game to Spain. Yes, there will be some sightseeing, but the main focus of the trip is basketball.

"The main reason we are going on this trip is to hopefully help our team get a jump start and a head start on the season," Head Coach Mark Gottfried said.

With ten extra practice sessions and five exhibition games overseas, the experience should be invaluable for the incoming freshmen. The highly rated class of newbies will get to see how they fit in right away.

"The freshmen, we haven't really connected with the upper classmen due to our class schedules and what not. It will just be us bonding," incoming freshman guard Rodney Purvis said.

Returning point guard Lorenzo Brown is not expected to play during the trip. The rising junior had surgery to repair a cartilage tear in his right knee a month ago. Brown considers himself to be close to 80 percent healthy.

"Now he's beginning to move around a little bit more. Our goal with Lorenzo is to be very conservative, go very slowly, and make sure he's 100 percent before we turn him loose," Gottfried said.

In sports it's not how you start, but how you finish. This pre-season getaway could have a major impact on the latter.
