WAYNE COUNTY (WTVD) -- A Wayne County girl is in critical condition after running into oncoming traffic Thursday night.
Authorities said around 10 p.m., the 12-year-old girl was struck by a pickup truck that was going west along US 70 at the intersection of Powell Road near Highway 111, just outside of the Goldsboro city limits.
The girl was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver, 67-year-old James Brooks Jr. of New Bern, is not facing any charges in connection with the incident, but was arrested at the scene for driving while impaired.
