RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A community came together Sunday to pray for four Broughton High School students who were injured in a car accident.
Friends of the four teenage girls said two were critically injured and remain hospitalized after Friday's crash.
The girls were traveling on NC-4, just west of Roanoke Rapids when their Range Rover SUV overturned.
Two of the girls, 17-year-old Tessa Jones and 17-year-old Janie Fountain, are members of the Capital Community Church in Raleigh, which put together the prayer vigil.
"In the midst of the trauma, that's when people were calling to say we just need to pray, and be praying for the girls, for the doctors, and for the families," pastor Leon Tucker said.
Fountain was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center, where friends said she suffered head trauma and is in a medically-induced coma.
Jones was airlifted to UNC Hospitals and suffered several broken bones in the accident.
Another passenger, 17-year-old Grace Barnard was taken to Wake Med with non-life threatening injuries. The driver, 17-year-old Anne Madeline Crone, was the only one wearing a seatbelt, according to troopers.
"We all know these girls and know they are so sweet. They didn't do anything wrong. It was just a crazy accident that no one expected to happen. People are so shocked that something would happen to such sweet girls, and everyone wants to support them," friend Bailey Jeutter said.
It is unclear what caused the crash, but troopers said speed and alcohol were not factors. Barnard was charged with failure to wear a seatbelt. Charges are pending against Crone.
