Wake County woman killed in crash

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Apex woman was killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle accident as she was heading to work, according to the Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 22-year-old Melissa Liegeot was driving on Highway 401 headed north towards Fuquay-Varina when she ran off the road to the right, hitting a mailbox. Her Ford Focus went down an embankment and hit a tree.

Liegeot was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the accident happened around 9:45 a.m. and the road was shut down in both directions for about two hours.
